Puppy Up Walk to Benefit Pets with Cancer

Being a huge animal lover, particularly dogs, seeing them sidelined with any illness is heartbreaking. Unfortunately, cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs, it’s estimated there are between four and eight million new cases of cancer in pets every year.

One organization is dedicated to studying the link between humans and animal cancers. 2 Million Dogs raises money for comparative oncology studies so more animals have access to possible cancer fighting drugs. It also helps families afford treatment through grants. And the research is already paying off. The founder of the organization, Luke Robinson, says he knows of a young cancer patient who benefited from a limb sparing technique developed and tested by dogs!

A fundraising walk is coming up November 4 in Liberty at Belvoir Winery. FOX 4’s Tess Koppelman and I will be on hand to help out. The walk is sponsored by Hero’s Hope Pet Assist. This group does some awesome work!

Their Pet-Assist program helps pet owners who are having difficulty taking care of their pets. They provide daily care, food, and other assistance.

The Puppies for Parole program works with correctional facilities to train shelter dogs and get them ready for adoption. They also place dogs in Veteran homes and mental health rehabilitation centers.

The walk will also raise funds for the Liberty Animal Shelter.
