KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The folks who live and work in Kansas City think its a pretty neat place. And now it seems the rest of American is starting to agree.
It seems the KC metro is starting to find its way on people’s must-see vacation spots.
Jon Stephens, the interim president and chief executive officer of the Kansas City Convention and Visitors Association appeared on Monday’s FOX 4 Morning Show to talk about how people around the country are making Kansas City their vacation destination.
The proof is in the numbers.
- 22.3 million people visited Kansas City last year, an increase of 2.4 percent from 2011 — a new record number of visitors who visited the area.
Tourism translates into big money for the Kansas City area economy.
- Visitor spending grew to $2.8 billion in 2012
- Tourism directly produced $4.6 billion in economic impact for the metro region, including indirect and induced impact
- Tourism-generated employment reached a new high at 45,107 jobs.
