Retro Raisin Cookies:
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups raisins
- 1 cup Crisco
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon allspice
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1 cup quick oats
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
2. Boil raisins in water for 5 minutes. Drain and let cool, save the water
3. Cream Crisco and sugar
4. Add eggs, ½ cup of the left-over raisin water, and vanilla.
5. Beat well.
6. Add all dry ingredients to flour and sift.
7. Add raisins. Mix. If adding walnuts and oats…add now.
8. Drop be heaping teaspoons onto parchment-covered baking sheet.
9. Bake for 10-13 minutes – watch after 10 minutes so they bake until lightly browned.
For Icing:
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 4 Tablespoons water
Blend all ingredients. Spread on cookies.
