Traffic signals going back in at 16 intersections

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City council members voted unanimously Thursday to install traffic signals at 16 intersections across the city. The traffic lights at 37 total intersections were replaced with stop signs in October 2012 after council members discovered they were out of date and not needed. But many residents complained the stop signs made it more dangerous for pedestrians at these particular 16 intersections, so city council members agreed it would be in the city’s best interest to re-install new traffic lights at these places. Here is a list of the intersections where traffic signals will soon replace stop signs:

– Benton Boulevard and 27th Street

– Benton Boulevard and 35th Street

– Benton Boulevard and 39th Street

– Benton Boulevard and Walrond/Linwood Boulevard

– Cleveland Avenue and 43rd Street

– Cleveland Avenue and Linwood Boulevard

– Indiana Avenue and 35th Street

– Indiana Avenue and 39th Street

– Jackson Avenue and Linwood Boulevard

– Woodland Avenue and 18th Street

– St. John Avenue and Topping Avenue

– The Paseo and 55th Street

– The Paseo and 59th Street

– Armour Boulevard and Warwick Boulevard

– Meyer Boulevard and Oak Street

– Gregory Boulevard and Main Street

City officials also want to put traffic lights at a 17th intersection, at State Line Road and 63rd Terrace/Tomahawk Road, but await approval from Mission Hills leaders before moving ahead with that project. City Manager Troy Schulte will now move forward with finding the funding to purchase the traffic signals for those intersections. A date when the lights will be installed has not yet been set.
