2-year-old dies from injuries after alleged child abuse by mother’s boyfriend

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A two-year-old child passed away Sunday morning after being hospitalized following a suspected case of child abuse.

On Saturday, Mirsad Hamidovic, 23, was initially facing two counts of child abuse for allegedly injuring the little boy, named Lorenzo, so severely that he was placed on life support at an area hospital.

According to court records, officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Washington and found the two-year-old victim lying on the floor of the apartment.  According to police Hamidovic is the mother’s boyfriend and had been at home alone with the victim while the mother was at work.

The suspect told police he jumped on the bed and came down on the victim, possibly striking the victim’s head against the window sill. He also said he jumped off the bed onto the victim, coming down on the victim’s chest. The victim started vomiting blood and became unresponsive. He also said he violently shook the victim.

Medical personnel told police that the victim had head and brain injuries consistent with shaking and blunt trauma to the head. The victim also suffered a lacerated liver consistent with being jumped on.

Hamidovic is being held on $500,000 bond, and may face additional charges in the death of the child.
