Police identify 7-month-old baby who died following KCK drive-by shooting

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A seven-month-old baby has died after being shot during a drive-by in KCK. The baby’s mother was also shot.

On Monday morning the little boy, who police later identified as Jaquail Mansaw, was reported to be in critical condition, but later died from his injuries. The baby’s mother, 25-year-old Balethia Washington, has minor injuries.

On Sunday night around 10:30, police were called to the shooting which took place in the 2700 block of North Early. Washington, who is a mother of six children, and her son were in the living watching television when shots were fired into their house. She told FOX 4 on Monday that she was getting ready to bathe little Jaquail at the time, and that the baby was shot in the back. Her relatives said both parents and three of their children were home at the time of the shooting. It’s not clear how many shots but police say multiple rounds were fired off into the home.

Before clearing the scene, investigators spent several hours combing the area around the house for evidence, including at least 22 shell casings.

“At this point we don’t have any suspect information. We don’t have a vehicle description that we can confirm at this point. so we’re asking the public for any assistance they can give us with solving this, said Sgt. Emmett Lockridge with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.
