Adriaunna Horton’s family emotional after seeing accused killer in court

LAMAR, Mo. — A man the victim’s family calls a ‘monster’ was in court on Monday to face charges for what he’s accused of doing to 12-year-old girl Adriaunna Horton. Bobby Bourne, 34, is charged with first-degree murder, forcible rape, statutory rape and kidnapping. Horton’s family told FOX 4 that Bourne was a family friend.

“If I can give him a slow death, I’d like that,” Velma Horton, Adriaunna’s grandmother, said.

Emotions ran high as Adriaunna’s family faced the man investigators have said raped and killed the 12-year-old girl. Bourne was led into court shackled and under heavy police presence. His arraignment was delayed 10 minutes because the judge said he did not complete an application for a public defender.

After that was done, Bourne did not enter a plea, instead his attorney and the prosecuting attorney set up the next court date. A date Horton’s family believes will get them closer to seeing justice served. Despite Adriaunna’s murder, Horton’s grandmother said they have a lot to be thankful for.

“Most people lose their children like this; have to go months, sometimes years before they find them. We had the man within two hours after he had taken our granddaughter; we found her two-and-a-half days after it happened.” Velma Horton said.

Adriaunna’s family said there are so many unanswered questions surrounding her murder, mainly: Why?

“There’s a lot of anger, it makes no sense, none of it,” Debbie Cooper, Adriaunna’s aunt, said.

“Him and my son helped paint a house and everything else together and then turn around and do this, I have no idea why,” Velma Horton said “If we can get him with the electric chair I’d like to see it.”

Before justice is served, the Horton family hopes to lay Adriaunna to rest at a service on Wednesday at Golden City High School.
