KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Shon Pernice is scheduled to go on trial next month for allegedly murdering his wife, Renee Pernice. Now, a metro community activist who has written in his blog about the case says that he has been called to give a deposition in the case.
Renee Pernice disappeared from her Northland home in January of 2009. Shon Pernice has been charged with first-degree murder in her death, despite the fact that her body has never been found. His trial is set to begin on February 27.
About a year ago, community anti-crime activist Alonzo Washington wrote in his blog that police may be focusing too much on Shon Pernice, and not interviewing other people who might know what happened to her.
Washington says that blog entry sparked a phone call from Shon Pernice himself, in which Pernice claims that, “I did not harm my wife, not one bit.”
Washington posted the recorded phone conversation on his YouTube page and turned it over to police at the time. But this week, Washington got another phone call from lawyers involved in the case.
“Now both sides want it and want to question me on the record, so I’m happy to oblige,” said Washington, who says that he doesn’t know specifically what information lawyers are most interested in.
On the tape, Pernice talks about his missing wife, saying “We talked about divorce and then boom, she’s gone.”
Washington says that it’s possible that Pernice told him something that he didn’t tell police, but in any case he will do whatever he can to help the case.
“All I want is justice for her,” said Washington. “Hopefully someone will reach out and give us tips where she is.”
