Apartments evacuated as firefighters put out blaze

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Crews were called out at about 3:30 p.m. Friday to an apartment complex at 8720 W. 106th St., in Overland Park. FOX 4’s Macradee Aegerter reports that at least half of one building at Antioch Woods apartment complex was fully consumed by fire.

Crews from both the Overland Park Fire Department and Johnson County Fire Department were on scene and several units were evacuated. Forty people are affected by the fire, 20 adults and 20 children. When firefighters arrived they saw fire coming out of windows and the blaze spread to the attic.

Firefighters remained on scene to battle hot spots on Friday evening. The fire started on the second floor in a kitchen and at present there are no injuries to report.
