As promised, penguins are coming to KC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The newest members of the Kansas City Zoo arrive Thursday from Wichita.

Zoo staffers are picking them up the penguins at the Sedgewick County Zoo and bringing them home to the new 15-million dollar penguin exhibit.

The exhibit has been years in the making. In 2004 Zoo Director Randy Wisthoff promised the people of Kansas City that he would bring penguins to the zoo.

The exhibit was paid for by a sales tax and four-million dollars in private donations.
These penguins are temperate climate; the cold-climate penguins arrive in October.

The exhibit is set to open to the public by the end of October.
