RAYTOWN, Mo. — A Raytown Christian blues singer has toured around the U.S. and has fans all over the country. But he’ll be making music back at the local level this weekend.
Gospel blues singer Daniel ‘Trublu’ Gray will be performing in the metro this weekend. He started his career in the ’70s, but this Raytown artist isn’t slowing down any time soon.
“I started playing Rock and Roll when I was a kid, and had kind of a troubled childhood, and found God,” said Gray, who grew up in Raytown. He’s had his nickname ‘Trublu’, “truth plus blues,” for 30 years now.
Gray started touring with a group in the ’70s, writing and recording own music in ’80s.
“It’s different, it’s something fresh, new,” said Connie Whitlock, President of King Cat Christian Music. She has more than 15 years of experience dealing with musicians of all genres.
“Blues is kind of trending in the Christian arena, especially in Kansas City, because Kansas City is known for its Jazz and its Blues,” added Whitlock.
She said Gray has a way of connecting with his audience, and he’s one of Kansas City’s premier Christian Blues artist. He was also awarded the KCCM Blues Artist of the Year during 2010, something he says is very humbling.
“Just the legitimization, I’ve never been one that really sought public recognition, I just do what I do,” Gray said.
He’s toured around country, but he’ll be performing this weekend in Lee’s Summit to promote his newest album, “Oh Jerusalem.”
“I have no intention of stopping any time soon!” he added.
He’s performing at the CD release party for his newest album titled “Oh Jerusalem” at the AZUR Ministries in 1737 Northeast Rice Road, Lee’s Summit, Mo, on March 30 at 7:00 PM. Tickets will be sold for $10.
