‘Barbecue for the Troops’ gives barbecue season new purpose

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Millions of families across the country will fire up their grills Monday to kick off barbecue season. Now there’s a way to turn your summer cook-outs into fundraisers to support U.S. troops.

The United Service Organization or USO is launching “Barbecue for the Troops.” It’s a grassroots campaign that asks families to throw backyard barbecues in support of American military families.

The USO is teaming up with Master Chef second season winner Jennifer Behm to promote the program, which runs Memorial Day to through Labor Day weekend.

They say helping out the troops is as simple as firing up your grill and inviting over some friends.
