Big Upgrades, New Exhibits Coming to Science City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Science City at Union Station could use a freshening-up, and leaders are hoping that a major investment by a local company helps bring in some new exhibits.

According to a report in the Kansas City Star, Science City, which attracts around 200,000 visitors a year to Union Station, is gearing up for some new exhibits and an upgrade of current exhibits thanks to a $1.25 million investment by Burns & McDonnell Engineering.

Among the new exhibits being planned include a floating orb, more animals for the nature center and a new exhibit called “Unplugged,” which features a giant interactive hamster wheel.

Officials at Science City, which has been named as one of the 25 best science centers in the nation by Parents Magazine, say that they are working to change the attitude of “been there, done that,” and are trying to get more students involved in the upgrades.
