Bill Self urges Chiefs’ fans to stop changing national anthem

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Will there ever be a time when we no longer hear Chiefs’ fans drown out the real words by shouting “Home of the CHIEFS” at the end of the national anthem?

Recently, KU head basketball coach Bill Self asked fans to stop replacing ‘Home of the Brave’ with ‘Home of the Chiefs’ when they’re at Allen Fieldhouse, and he wishes they’d refrain in every arena.

“From my standpoint, and this probably falls on deaf ears, I think out of respect for what it really stands for and the men and women who have sacrificed so much, I think that we should stay true to what it is,” said Self.

Last month, FOX 4 talked to Chiefs’ fans about the push to stop this anthem alteration that can be tracked back to the 1990s.

A facebook page called “Arrowhead, Home of the Brave” is growing in popularity. On October 19 it had more than 600 likes. It now has almost 1,000 likes after launching in October.
