BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — If you’re going to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, you might as well pick a hot day! The Blue Springs High School Golden Regiment Marching Band took it one step further and decided to have everyone participate at the same time.
Go big or go home, this marching band went beyond big. They quite possibly could hold the unofficial record for the most simultaneous bucket dumps. In order to have all 320 band members ready to take the challenge at once, parents and the fire department teamed up to for a bucket brigade.
While that was going on, the band went through it’s normal outdoor afternoon practice in near triple-digit heat. It was no problem for this group, they’re gearing up for fall band competitions and they have the Tournament of Roses Parade to practice for.
When they were done, everyone had their own bucket and accepted the ALS challenge at the same time. The band did the bucket challenge and raised about $2,000. Band director Dr. Tim Allshouse then threw down the challenge to Blue Valley and bands in Oklahoma and Texas to dump and donate to ALS.
