KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Police confirmed Thursday morning that the body found inside of a freezer at a Kansas City, Kan., residence on Sunday is a missing 53-year-old man from Arizona.
Shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, Kansas City, Kan., police were dispatched to a home located at 1837 New Jersey and they later confirmed human remains were found in a freezer inside a detached garage behind the home. An autopsy to determine a cause of death was delayed until the body has thawed.
The victim has been identified as Lawrence Muirhead, who has been missing since October 2013. He was a resident of Tuscon, Ariz., and drove a truck for a living. In October, his truck was located in Merriam, Kan. with cargo loaded inside.
Early reports called the nature of the death “gruesome” and indicated the remains may have been body parts.
Police said the neighborhood where the body was found is typically not a high-crime area.
On Sunday a neighbor told FOX 4’s Tess Koppelman he had seen a man and a woman possibly arguing outside the home two days earlier.
