KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s all treat and no trick for commuters this Halloween, as Route 169 across the Broadway Bridge reopened early Wednesday morning after being shut down for three and a half months.
The original completion date for the $13.6 million project was set for December 16, but the general contractor, Pyramid Contractors Inc, and their subcontractor, Comanche Construction Co., took advantage of the warm, dry weather to shave off a good chunk of construction time.
The construction took place on the bridge just north of the downtown airport. MoDOT removed about a mile of a corrugated steel wall on the east side of the northbound lanes and replaced it with a concrete wall. The southbound lanes were improved, as well the drainage system.
Officials said that the highway needed to be shut down to all traffic because it is so narrow.
