KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Pitchers and reserves have been named to the American League and National League All-Star Teams, and were announced Sunday by Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association and All-Star Game managers Tony La Russa of the National League and Ron Washington of the American League.
Designated hitter Billy Butler was chosen as a reserve for the American League team, his first selection to an All-Star team. Butler is batting .297 with 16 home runs and 48 RBIs leading into Sunday’s game with the Minnesota Twins.
Royals closer Jonathan Broxton has a chance to be the 34th member of the AL All-Star team if he wins the All-Star Game Final Vote. Fans should vote at mlb.com/vote. Voting goes until Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
In addition to the starters who were elected by the fans, pitchers and reserve players were named to the All-Star Game rosters by the Player Ballot – a vote of the players, managers and coaches – and by the All-Star Game managers in conjunction with MLB. In making their selections, the managers have ensured that each of the 30 Major League Clubs will be represented in the All-Star Game.
