California teen on a shoe string budget makes prom dress from soda tabs

PALMDALE, Calif. — Friday, April 11 is prom night for Brie Fainblit, and she’s determined to look incredible.

To look incredible, she’s doing something incredible. The high school senior lives with her mother, who is disabled, and her aunt, who works two part-time jobs to support them.

There are times they go without water or electricity because the bills aren’t paid. According to the LA Times, Brie, her aunt and mother sleep together in the den, closing off the rest of the house to lower the bills.

But the Palmdale teen wants to go to the dance, and while she’s short on money, she’s not short on talent or innovation. Brie is making her own dress — out of soda-can tabs.
