KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Charges have been filed in a May 16, 2015 shooting incident, where one person was killed and another injured, near the CoCo Key Water Resort during business hours.
The alleged crime, which happened on Saturday, May 16, around 5 p.m., took place inside the Adams Mark Hotel located at 9103 East 39th Street. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two shooting victims. The first victim, 19-year-old Ryshun Bell, was found lying on the floor of the main entrance and died while being transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. A second unknown victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to a metro hospital in connection to the shooting.
According to court documents, witnesses said they saw Lewis and one of the victims have a verbal confrontation near the pool area of the water park. They said the victims then left the scene, but Lewis followed them to the main entrance of the water park, where they began a second verbal confrontation. They said Lewis proceeded to pull out a black handgun, firing several shots which killed one victim and injured the other.
According to the probable cause statement, Lewis was taken into police custody on an unrelated arrest warrant and booked into the Jackson County Correctional Facility on May 19.
On Wednesday, charges were filed against Lewis in Jackson County. His bond has been set at $250,000.
