Dwayne Bowe Signs Chiefs Tender

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs fans who believe Dwayne Bowe is key to a successful season can let out a sigh of relief.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that the wide receiver has signed his franchise tender from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bowe caught 153 passes for 2,321 yards and 20 touchdowns in his last two seasons. In 2011, he had 81 receptions for 1,159 yards and five touchdowns.

Bowe was spotted last Friday afternoon aboard a commercial flight from his home in Atlanta to Kansas City. Bowe had no comment when he arrived at Kansas City International Airport that day.

The 27-year-old Bowe, who was the Chiefs first-round draft pick in 2007, was given the team’s franchise tag during the off-season, but had not come to an agreement with the Chiefs on a long-term contract.

According to NFL.com, Bowe’s contract for the 2012 season will be worth approximately $9.5 million in base salary, which will become fully guaranteed once the tender has been formally signed.
