KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There are a number of charities in Kansas City that could use a little extra help this holiday season as donations across the board are down. See the list below for information on how you can help bring Christmas to needy families and teens in the Kansas City area.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES
Catholic Charities still needs 500 toys in the next 24 hours for needy families who per-registered to pick out a gift at this weekend’s Toy Shoppe.
Donations of gifts or cash are welcome. Cash donations may be made online at CatholicCharities-kcsj.org. Gifts may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday at 20 West 9th Street in Kansas City, Mo.
The most requested toy items for younger children (0-6) are educational toys and books. Older children (7-12) often request art supplies, backpacks, sports bags. Teens and young adults (13-21) often wish for gift cards, movie passes, DVDs, accessories.
SALVATION ARMY KETTLE MATCH
Starting this weekend, the money you donate to the Salvation Army will be doubled.
Two anonymous donors are pledging to match dollar-for-dollar all internet and Red Kettle donations to the Salvation Army, from Friday, December 13 to December 24, up to $300,000. It is the largest match in the history of The Salvation Army in Kansas City.
All donations support The Salvation Army services, including homeless assistance, feeding programs, emergency assistance, disaster services, senior and youth programming and more. To get involved, visit KettleMatch.org or SalArmyMoKan.org.
SACK IT FOR SANTA
Sack it for Santa is a holiday effort by the Love Fund for Children to provide gifts to area teenagers, ages 13-18. The next 24-hours is critical to their success of providing gifts to 1,000 area youth.

The Love Fund has elves willing to shop for gifts that will be given to those who are often forgot during the holidays: teenagers!
