Cold Air Brings Car Thieves in Shawnee

SHAWNEE, Kan. — The weather got a little chilly last night, and as a result at least two drivers were left without a ride thanks to car thieves, police said.

According to Shawnee Police, the cars were taken after their owners started them to warm them up, and then left them unattended. Authorities say that there have now been six such incidents in Shawnee since the beginning of October.

“I understand people don’t want to go to a cold car but its not worth having your car stolen. Obviously we ask you keep your cars locked – its actually against the law to keep your car unlocked and unattended while warming up in Shawnee,” said Shawnee Police Lt. Doug Orbin.
