Community Inspired by Boy’s Act of Kindness

LAWSON, Mo. — A young boy’s act of kindness has sparked a movement in the community. He wanted to sell his trading cards so he could afford to buy Christmas presents for his family.

Now, the rest of the community wants to help those in need. Nine-year-old Landin wanted to sell his prize possessions so he could give to others. Kristen Dobbins told Landin’s mom she would give him the money and let him keep the cards. Then more people came forward to help.

“I just got overwhelmed and it was emotional,” said Dana Mosby-Brown. “I didn’t think people did this anymore.”

Landin’s mom wanted to harness that spirit of giving. Three weeks ago she and Kristen started the Blessings Facebook page.

“The next day it was over 200 members after 24 hours,” Dobbins said.

People in need post their requests and the group’s network of angels try to help. Right now there are a lot of requests for toys and clothes. One child’s request tugged at Dobbin’s heart.

“All he wanted for Christmas was food,” Dobbins said.

The two women collect donations from the angels. Their garages are packed full. Landin can’t believe he helped inspire all of this.

“He told me just the other day, ‘mom this is exactly what I wanted to have happen,”‘ Dana said.

She and Kristen don’t know where all of this will taken them. They’re considering becoming an official non-profit. For now, they’re just enjoying it for what it is…people helping others in need.

You can join the group if you need a blessing or if you’re an angel offering help. The site is  http://www.facebook.com/groups/BlessingsfromGod2U/
