KANSAS CITY, Mo – It remains a murder mystery, a mother and her young daughter murdered in August of 2013. Now an effort in renewed to make sure they’re not forgotten. A rally was held Friday night with a purpose to spread the word.
FOX 4’s Megan Brilley spoke with the victims’ family.
“Her smile,” Kevin Turner said.
It’s what he misses most about his niece, 28-year-old Myeshia Turner.
She and her three-year-old daughter Damiah White were shot in their duplex. Myeshia’s 11-month-old son crawled around the home for at least a day while the two were left dead, bleeding on the floor.
“It’s almost unexplainable what our family is going through,” Turner said.
Through the grief, they’ve been trying to keep Myeshia and Damiah’s memory alive, but lately they say their worst fear seems to be coming true.
People are forgetting.
“It’s like a disgrace. It makes me feel like I’m unworthy. It’s hard because it’s like why do we deserve this?” Turner asked.
But they got a call that helped them to realize they’re not forgotten. A group of community activists met Friday for a rally in honor of Myeshia and Damiah.
They handed out flyers to passing cars and offered condolences as Myeshia’s mom tried to fight back the tears.
“For these guys to reach out and say that, ‘that’s enough we can’t take it.’ And the perpetrator? He should feel the same way,” Turner said.
Family says they have no idea who or why someone would so gruesomely take both lives, but they hope and pray events like these and strangers who offer helping hands don’t disappear.
“We just ask for answers.”
