LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — KU and MU fans all over the metro spent Saturday afternoon in front of their t-vs. About 75 deaf fans attended a watch party at Side Pockets in Lee’s Summit to cheer on their teams.
Many of the die hard fans at Saturday’s event have been friends for years. The KU fans were outnumbered by MU fans at the bar but it didn’t stop them from talking up their Jayhawks. Interpreter Jeff Dunlap helped Jennifer Babgy express her excitement about Kansas.
“We are going to stay around and support KU all the way,” said KU fan Jennifer Bagby. “We are not chicken. We are not going to run away.”
MU fan Lori Scanlan was surrounded by half a dozen KU fans when she spoke to FOX 4 but that didn’t stop her from making her passionate prediction.
“I think MU is going to win for sure,” Scanlan said. “I’m from Missouri so they’ve got to win.”
KU and MU fans say they love the rivalry and hate to see it end. Roland Scanlan says when the rivalry ends the fans won’t be the only ones hurting.
“After the rivalry is over, money is going to be gone and businesses are going to hurt,” said fan Roland Scanlan.
Fans say they’re just glad to hang out with one another and have some fun regardless of Saturday’s winner.
