MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. — Rescuers have recovered the body of a man, who went missing while jet skiing at an area lake.
Deputies said 57-year-old Timothy R. Jackson, of Gardner, was out with a friend jet skiing on Saturday. Around 5:30 p.m. the friend said he had left the Jayhawker Marina at the lake and the victim remained there. Jackson never arrived home on Saturday night. Shortly after 10 a.m. on Sunday, Kansas Wildlife and Parks received a call about a missing person.
On Sunday morning the Miami County Undersheriff confirmed first responders from the Kansas Wildlife and Parks, Hillsdale Lake Corp of Engineers, South Johnson County Fire Department Water Rescue, Miami County Emergency Medical Services, and Miami County Sheriff’s Office were on scene at Hillsdale Lake searching for Jackson.
About 12:30 p.m. Jackson’s body was recovered near the shoreline on the west side of the lake, and a stand-up style jet ski, specifically a Jet Ski SX-R 800, was located nearby. Investigators say Jackson was discovered in about three feet of water, wearing both a life jacket and a safety key on his wrist.
Jackson’s cause of death remains under investigation, but investigators say it appears to be a drowning or accidental.
