KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A German Shepherd, thrown from a highway overpass, was taken in by a group of Kansas Citians. It’s a story that was first reported by FOX 4 News.
The group have dedicated their time to help the dog named Lindey get better.
It’s a gathering that many prayed about and waited for for more than a week. And those involved showed just how much they love their pets, and especially one in particular.
“Everyone has just come in full force to help Lindey. It’s truly amazing,” said Great Plains SPCA’s Rachel Hodgson.
Lindey has been drawing even more supporters since FOX 4 News reported the story on Monday. Just a few days after she was thrown off the 23rd Street Viaduct and was rescued by a woman who claimed she saw it happen.
According to a local veterinarian, the dog’s paws and the front of her face took the brunt of the fall.
However, Lindey started a new chapter on Sunday. The dog headed for a new home.
“I have done this for 15 years,” Christi Raak said. Raak is Lindey’s new foster mom.
“I was amazed she didn’t have more injuries,” she said. “Everyone always says how can you give them up? But when you take them in you know you are transitioning them to be a forever dog and an awesome companion for somebody else.”
With a crowd of supporters waiting, Lindey made her big debut, but shied away from some of her biggest supporters.
The dog still has a long road to recovery, but a lot of supporters are willing to help her every step of the way.
“An unbreakable spirit, what is amazing is that not a single bone in her body broke in this fall,” Raak explained. “She did have some medical issues that Pearl took care of, but her spirit it is also unbreakable.”
If you are wondering if you can adopt Lindey, you can’t just yet. Getting the dog healthy is the first step and then finding the perfect home will come later.
