Driveway Robberies in Kansas and Missouri May be Related

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A daring criminal is targeting people right outside of their homes. Two robberies on December 17th left victims lying in their driveways.

Police believe one man is responsible for both crimes. One homeowner was robbed at gunpoint in Brookside while another victim was robbed in Prairie Village. All of the victims had just gotten out of their cars when the robberies happened.

The first robbery happened around 8 p.m. on Saturday night. Three people were forced to the ground at gunpoint as the robber rummaged through their pockets. He demanded anything they had and threatened to shoot whoever didn’t cooperate.

A group of teens who saw it happen told police the masked man fled around the corner to a waiting red truck heading west on Gregory Blvd. The next robbery happened nearby on West 71st Terrace. The victim in the first tells FOX 4 that having a gun pointed in his face changed everything.

“When a guy tells you to lie face down on your driveway you think is this going to be one of those execution type deals?” said Michael Loman. “I said there are two small kids in the house. I said I’m a retired fireman, I don’t have any money and he said ‘I’m not going to hurt you.’ ‘I’m not going to hurt you.”‘

Prairie Village Police say they are looking into both crimes and say on Wednesday they will release surveillance video of the suspect in the red getaway truck using one of the stolen credit cards to get gas.

Police say that neither of the neighborhoods has a high robbery rate but say this is a time of year that there are a lot of burglaries. Officers caution people to close your blinds in your home, lock your doors and always be aware of your surroundings.
