Easter Sunday ends with one dead at Ohio church

ASHTABULA, Ohio — Police in northeast Ohio are investigating a shooting outside a church that a parishioner says left one man dead after an Easter service.

“He was a good man,” one witness said. “He didn’t deserve to die.”

Police said the victim and suspect appeared to be arguing before the gunman opened fire.

An associate pastor said after the shooting the gunman went to the pulpit.

“I didn’t know if he was going to be doing like a hostage situation or if  he was just going to start shooting people,” Steve Sargent, associate pastor, said.

When police arrived, the gunman surrendered without incident.

Media reports identified the victim as Richard Riddle, 52, and said his son was the shooter.
