KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three bodies were found at a home in Kansas City, Mo. on Monday. Investigators found one body in a yard at 39th & Paseo and two more inside the home.
Relatives and neighbors are looking for answers. Veronica Byers worked with the elderly woman found inside the home.
“Donna used to be a nice person,” Byers said. “She took me home. We ate breakfast together. We had a nice time.”
Byers was stunned and distraught as many neighbors and family were on Monday. Donna Pike, 61, her 41-year-old son, Herschel and 57-year-old Edward Williams were all killed on Monday. Williams was a long time friend of the Pikes. He was known as the neighborhood mechanic who repaired cars on the property and sometimes lived with the pikes.
Neighbors and friends say they were surprised by Monday’s news.
“She was a good person,” said family friend Dana Thomas. “Anything that you needed, if she could help you she would help you.”
Family members say Herschel Pike’s girlfriend flagged down police after she couldn’t get an answer at the door. She suspected something was wrong. Officers collected items from the home, took several pictures and dusted a gray PT Cruiser on the side of the home for prints.
Friends say they can’t believe Pike is gone.
“She was a beautiful person and her son was too,” said neighbor Katrina Maldonado.
Police are saying how the three victims were killed. Neighbors say the hope and pray that the senseless violence will end.
“We just need to come together as a community and cease the fire, put down the guns and stop the violence,” Maldonado said.
