Employment Help for Veterans

MERRIAM, Kan. — There are more than 750,000 U.S. military veterans without work; many here in the metro. Making the transition from military service to a civilian career can be difficult.

On Saturday, one company in the metro made that transition a little easier. The Home Depot held 100 workshops across the country called Mission Transition.

Experts at the Merriam and Midtown stores taught veterans how to use social media; taught interview and resume techniques to make their military skill-set appealing
to a civilian manager.

“I think its much more difficult then people realize. It’s a very different experience, especially when you are young and your first job out of high school would be the military. It’s basically all you know. It’s wonderful that we are doing this to help them transition into a position in these tough economic times coming out of war,” said
Jeff Limle, Navy Vet.

Saturday’s workshops were such a success that Home Depot store managers plan to conduct more in the future. For more information, go to www.careers.homedepot.com/military.
