Salacious? Yes. Lurid? You bet. Far fetched? Absolutely. “Gone Girl” is all of those things. And this adaptation of Kansas City native Gillian Flynn’s novel is also one of the best and most entertaining movies of the year.

“Gone Girl” is a salacious and deliciously seductive slice of guilty pleasure cinema done at a high level. Director David Fincher’s icy cool film is a mesmerizing morality tale with pulpy overtones written by Kansas City native Gillian Flynn.

Director David Fincher’s riveting and whip smart mystery thriller is a well-acted and meticulously constructed mind mender that also serves as a sharp critique of the scandal-obsessed media. “Gone Girl” could prove to be a star-making vehicle for British actress Rosamund Pike.

Essentially a horror movie “Gone Girl” builds with tension and maximizes Gillian Flynn’s terrific wordplay. And talk about perfect casting. Rosmund Pike delivers the best performance of the year. Ben Affleck is perfect and even Tyler Perry as a Johnny Cochran like lawyer displays real chops as an actor. The extras are sparse but you do get an exclusive new “Amazing Amy” story: Tattle Tale – A 36-page children’s book that is only available with the purchase of the Blu-ray and means nothing unless you have read the book or seen the movie.

Liam Neeson proves that middle-aged men can still kick some backside in the dark & sleazy thriller, “A Walk Among the Tombstones.” He’s a private detective after psycho kidnappers. It’s gripping, but you may want to take a shower afterward.
SHAWN
It’s dark and intense. At first it all all seems like your usual Liam Neeson “Taken” movie until you realize that it wants to actually be “Seven” in the worst way. The extras are decent both nothing special.
