DALLAS — Country music star Randy Travis, 53, was arrested for driving while intoxicated Tuesday night near Tioga, Texas, located near the Oklahoma border.
According to the Associated Press, someone called 911 around 11 p.m. Tuesday to report seeing a man lying in the road. Officers arriving at the scene said a naked Travis crashed his Pontiac Trans Am, striking several barricades and coming to a stop off the road. Travis was reportedly combative and threatened to kill state troopers. According to Tom Vinger, a Department of Public Safety spokesman, Travis refused a sobriety test, so a blood specimen was taken.
Travis was released from jail Wednesday morning on a $21,500 bond. In addition to the charge of driving under the influence, the Associated Press reports Travis also faces a felony charge of retaliation or obstruction, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
This is the second arrest involving alcohol for the country entertainer. In February he was cited for public intoxication.
