“Unfinished Business” unaccomplished? Second “Marigold Hotel” worth checking into? Popcorn Bag reviews!!

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

  1. UNFINISHED BUSINESS(R)

20th Century Fox

Russ:

While it’s still too early in the year to make any proclamations, it’s likely that the new tone deaf Vince Vaughn comedy “Unfinished Business” will make it onto a lot of ‘worst movies of the year’ lists.

SHAWN

No, it’s not too early. “Unfinished Business” is horrible. It’s the type of movie that makes people hate movies.

RUSS

The talented cast will want to forget all about this awful and distasteful failure about three American businessmen who see everything go wrong when they try to nail down a big deal in Berlin.

SHAWN

“Unfinished Business” is so bad that even the funny parts of trailer aren’t funny in the movie. A nearly impossible accomplishment that actually happens.

RUSS

I wouldn’t be surprised if Tom Wilkinson, Dave Franco, Sienna Miller, James Marsden and Nick Frost left this fiasco off of their resumes. The humor is crude, the laughs are forced and the sentiment is phony. “Unaccomplished Business” might have been a more appropriate title.

SHAWN

You really are in trouble when the title of the movie negatively describes the movie. “Unfinished Business” seems incomplete. It’s also poorly written, lazily acted and amertourishly directed. And I haven’t even mentioned Dave Franco and one of the worst characters since his brother in Spring Breakers.

  1. THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL(PG)

20th Century Fox

RUSS

The comic drama “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” which focused on British retirees in India, was a surprise smash hit back in 2012.

While the original was made for under $10 million, it grossed over $160 million at the worldwide box office. That could only mean one thing, “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.”

SHAWN

Not sure it was a smash hit. Nonetheless, the follow-up, “The Second Best Marigold Hotel” will have a hard time filling in its footsteps. Mostly because it’s not as charming.

RUSS

Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith return and they’re joined by young buck Richard Gere, playing folks who occupy a rooming house for the elderly and beautiful in Jaipur. The script is strictly stale naan bread, but the capable cast helps turn it into spicy curry. The colorful locale is another plus. While it’s all very soapy and silly, the underserved 50-and-over demographic may enjoy this sweet-natured return visit to the land of seven rivers.

SHAWN

Why you gotta be old to enjoy “The Second Best Marigold Hotel?” I believe it will appeal to general audiences of all ages. Actually refreshing to see something with no explosions, deaths, gratuitous nudity and fart jokes. It’s called wholesome quality entertainment.
