KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A leader in the Unified Government in Kansas City, Kan., disputes allegations that he assaulted an employee of Legoland at Crown Center.
Commissioner Tarence Maddox says surveillance video of the reported assault proves his side.
Maddox spoke exclusively with FOX 4’s Eric Burke, and admitted to Burke that he had a bad day, lost his cool and his temper, but Maddox says he did not assault anyone or even attempt to.
Maddox says his fiance ordered tickets to Legoland online. They had hoped to walk right in, but there was a problem. Maddox said he walked away and she handled it, but when an employee disrespected her, Maddox said he intervened.
“They questioned her ability to read. No one treats her like that, so I stepped in,” explained Maddox.
A witness said Maddox chest-bumped the Legoland employee. Maddox wants you to look at the video from August 17th– and decide for yourself.
“I didn’t assault or attempt to assault anyone. Did I handle it poorly? Yes. it never should have escalated like that and I apologize to all my voters. I also thank all those who have supported me and had my back,” he said.
Maddox is due in Kansas City Municipal Court on October 21st.
