WASHINGTON – The Federal Aviation Administration expects air travel to be back to normal by Sunday night.
On Saturday, the FAA suspended all employee furloughs. The government agency had forced air traffic controllers to take unpaid time off, because of federal budget cuts.
The furloughs caused thousands of flight delays around the U.S.
Congress responded with a bill to help fix the problem. But President Obama called the legislation temporary since other sequester cuts will be coming.
“We can’t just keep putting Band-Aids on every cut,” the president said. “It’s not a responsible way to govern. There is only one way to truly fix the sequester — by replacing it before it causes further damage.”
House Republicans say they’ve already passed two bills that would replace the sequester cuts, but the bills haven’t gone any where in the Senate.
