Family alleges businesses liable for man’s death in Westport

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the parents of Brian Euston — the 24-year-old who died after a night out in Westport in 2010.

Kevin and Kathy Euston filed the lawsuit earlier in May. It alleges a security company and two Westport business and community organizations are liable for their son’s death.

The suit names Chesley Brown International, a security company, as a defendant. It also includes the Westport Community Improvement District and Westport Regional Business League.

Euston was found with a severe head wound in Westport in the early morning hours of October 10, 2010. He died in a hospital a few days later. The Jackson County Medical Examiner said Euston died from complications from blunt force injury and was intoxicated at the time. Although Euston wasn’t driving, his blood alcohol was four times the legal limit to operate a vehicle.

A 27-year-old man was charged with involuntary manslaughter in Euston’s death, but was later acquitted.

The lawsuit is on the books for August in Kansas City, Mo.
