Family and friends hold vigil for Kansas City couple found dead inside their home with crying baby

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Family and friends held a vigil Sunday night to remember a man and woman found dead inside a home on the city’s east side. Family identify the couple as Renitta Crutchfield and Leo Wagers, both in their 30’s.

“We are just out to show the love we have for our beloved daughter, sister, friend and cousin,” said Kaye McClenton, Crutchfield’s mother. “My daughter was very strong, my family is very strong.”

Police said there was no obvious cause of death and are calling the deaths suspicious. Officers were called to the home on a welfare check. Police said the division of family services were knocking on the door then they heard a baby crying, and grew concerned with nobody came to the door.

“You never know how much you miss a person until they are gone,” said Maya McClenton, Crutchfield’s sister. “I loved her just as well as I love my other siblings.”

Family members shared memories with each candle they lit on Sunday night. They tell FOX 4 the infant crying inside the home was the couple’s two-month-old baby girl.

Investigators say the home was without power and a generator was found inside the garage. They said they are unsure at this time if it has anything to do with the deaths.

Toxicology tests are underway. Family members have started a GoFundMe.com page to help pay for funeral services.
