KANSAS CITY, Kan. –A year after her death, loved ones of 10-year-old Machole Stewart gathered in her honor Monday night.
Unfortunately, police are no closer to arresting her killer.
Balloons filled the sky in honor of a young life taken too soon.
On this day, one year ago, close to two-dozen bullets flew through a KCK home, with 10-year old Machole Stewart inside.
“She was sitting there watching the World Series,” Machole’s grandmother Krystal Stewart said. “She probably would have been sitting there watching again this year.”
Machole`s grandmother says the shooting brought about a gut-wrenching heartache.
What`s been harder than living without Machole, she says, is that no one is in custody for the shooting.
“No one wants to tell us anything,” Krystal says. “No leads or nothing every time I call and talk to them. I just don`t understand how is it a whole year later. It`s like they`re not doing anything.”
Krystal says she feels it sends a message to the shooter that he`s going to get away with Machole`s murder, but says ultimately he`ll have to answer to someone.
“In the end it`s not up to the police department, God is going to have the last word,” Krystal says.
As Machole`s family waits for word that her killer has been caught, the family clings to their memories of the child.
“Machole was a sweet, she was a sweet child,” her grandmother said. “She had a kind heart.”
And hopes to keep Michole alive in their hearts.
