KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The family of a Kansas City, Kansas woman couldn’t find her for hours and later she was found dead.
Police found 48-year-old Mary Miller-Bowen behind some bushes near 5th and Minnesota, after her sister said she had called her, begging her to pick her up.
Investigators were now calling her death suspicious as of Sunday. Family said they won’t find closure until they find answers.
On Monday, police said they believe Miller-Bowen’s death was the result of an overdose.
On Friday Cecilia Vine got a frantic phone call from her sister, Miller-Bowen.
“She said she would be on the corner. We kept saying ‘okay we are on our way,’” said Vine.
Family says Miller-Bowen was hysterically crying, seemingly out of breath, begging them to rush to 5th and Minnesota.
“Her voice was fading. We thought that was her taking her last breath,” said Vine.
Family stood near the corner, yelling Mary’s name for hours. Their search ended when they couldn’t find her but the next day they found out Mary’s body was hidden in some bushes just a few feet away.
“I can’t believe I was that close to her. If I would’ve just gotten out of the car to walk over there, maybe I could’ve saved her I don’t know?” Vine said.
Just a day after, Mary’s sisters and family meet in the same spot her body was found, completely broken by the fact the 48 year old wife and mother of two is gone.
“I’m so numb,” she said.
Family says at one point in her life, Miller-Bowen battled drug addiction but had since started living a clean life.
On Sunday they said they weren’t sure how she died, but that she will be missed forever.
“We love you, we miss you and you’ll always be with us,” said Vine.
