Fans wait hours in heat for ticket, glimpse of One Direction

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There’s apparently nothing hotter in KC than the band One Direction. At least that’s what dozens of young fans think. They’ve spent the day lining up and standing outside Sprint Center.

This concert is one of the hottest tickets of the year, especially for teenage girls, some said they have been standing outside for 12 hours because they’re so excited.

While most showed up with tickets in hand, others had to get a little resourceful. Eight hours before the One Direction concert, more than 100 teenage girls flooded the sprint center sidewalks, waiting to get a glimpse of the band.

Around the corner, a smaller group stood. Five Grain Valley High School seniors say they’ve got their strategy down to a science.

“We are one of those people who can’t afford tickets but we love One Direction and sometimes when you can’t get the first option which is buying tickets, you got to do the next best thing,”  one of the teenagers said. “We are signing for One Direction tickets. It worked last time at the Bieber concert.

They’re standing right next to the box office, crooning for passerbys who may happen to be feeling a bit generous.

Several other fans showed up to the Sprint Center ticketless, like 15-year-old Miranda Bradshaw and her mom, Nancy.

“We were just waiting around to see if we could catch a glimpse of them and meet them but then we found out they were selling tickets and we got some,” Miranda Bradshaw said.

“We looked at the prices way back in the summer earlier in the year and they were way out of our price range and then they released these. So excited we drove from Columbia and she’s going to be able to go,” Nancy Bradshaw said.

The box office released a limited number of tickets today, but they still ran $75 apiece. That was too much for the teens. So, hours later, in the intense heat, these choir girls continue to sing.

“Is it worth it? Yes it worth it! We meet people, there’s some people down there we met and its like we’re welcomed immediately because were like a family and we all are here for the same thing,” one hopeful concert goer said.
