KANSAS CITY, Mo. – One victim died during a house fire early Saturday morning in Kansas City, Mo.
Just before 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, fire fighters were called to a home at 5719 St. John Avenue. Authorities from the Kansas City, Mo. Fire Department said the fire was the most intense in the front part of the home in the living room area. Inside the home, they said they discovered a man lying on the floor in the dining room.
Firefighters dragged the man outside and began performing CPR, which at first was successful. The man was able to regain a pulse several times, but later died after being taken to an area hospital. Officials said the home was not equipped with any working smoke detectors.
Neighbors of the man said he had lived in the home for quite some time, but kept to himself. One of his neighbors said he attempted to help the man out of the fire, but said the smoke was too think and only got about five steps inside the home before it got to be too much for him.
“He’s a pretty good guy, he kept to himself, he’s a nice neighbor…it’s really sad that he has passed,” said a neighbor of the house fire victim.
