Five people charged with 2nd degree murder in St. Joseph double homicide

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Five people have been charged in connection to a double homicide that occurred in St. Joseph on Sunday.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired into a van in the 1900 block of Safari Drive around 10:15 a.m. Upon arrival, police found two people dead near the van.

Authorities on Monday arrested five people in connection with the murders.

Alexi Martinez-Andino, 19; Raymond Jimenez-Bencebi, Jr., 26; Luz A. Figueroa-Castillo, 29; Luis Omar Robles-Vargas, 31; and Omar Martinez-Velez, 34, each face a charge of 2nd degree murder.

Court documents state that each suspect was at the scene with a loaded firearm when “multiple shots were fired from several weapons, striking and causing the death of two victims.”

Police have not yet identified the victims.

The Class A felonies carries a range of punishment from 10-30 years or life imprisonment.

Bond has been denied in all cases. Arraignment dates are unknown at this time.
