‘Freezin’ for a Reason’ raises funds for kids with rare genetic disease

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Temperatures neared 35 degrees Thursday and most people wouldn’t go for a swim in these temperatures.

But the Winnebago Water Wizards Ski Club didn’t mind the cold.

Members strapped on their skis to help three siblings with a rare genetic disease.

FOX 4 photojournalist Jon Haiduk takes you inside the ninth annual “Freezin’ for a Reason” event at Lake Winnebago.

The event raises money for the Cox children. Doctors have diagnosed all three kids, ages 13, 17 and 20, with SDS. It’s a rare genetic disease which involves the pancreas, bone marrow and skeleton.
