WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The University of Central Missouri Mules are riding high after winning its fourth national championship in school history. But the players know winning always increases interest in coaches. In this case, that coach is Kim Anderson.
Junior Preston Brunz said he got a text about a team meeting Monday morning. He said the possibility of coach Anderson leaving had been on everyone’s mind.
“We went in there and coach came in and you could tell right away what it was about,” Brunz explained.
“All of us are old enough to know and understand that it’s his time and it’s a good position you can’t pass that up,” said senior John Gilliam.
Even though the season’s over, Gilliam is still being a team leader.
“I’m trying to keep them positive, saying you’re at a good school regardless of the head coach you have here so the tradition here speaks for itself,” said Gilliam
Brunz says he and the rest of the team understand that and despite losing their coach, they have a job to do, too.
“We’ve got 10 players coming back and we’re excited we’re all together for this one and all will be back together for next year, hopefully get it done for UCM,” said Brunz.
