Get answers to Obama’s new health care law

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Have questions about the Affordable Care Act or ‘Obamacare’? You’re not alone. A meeting Tuesday night aims to help you sort it all out.

In October huge changes in health insurance take effect as part of the new healthcare law. Starting October 1, people can begin picking an insurance plan for 2014 through a health marketplace or ‘exchange’. It’s the place where the uninsured or those who want different health insurance can go to buy insurance.

Starting next year every American will be required to buy health insurance or face a penalty. In the first year it will be $95 or one percent of your income, whichever is higher.

The Kansas Insurance Department is hosting Tuesday’s meeting on the KU Edwards Campus. It starts at 7 p.m. in the Best Conference Center.
