KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The sonic stylings of hard rock will ring through Arrowhead Wednesday night when Guns N’ Roses takes the stage.
The popular band is playing Kansas City for the first time in 24 years.
You can expect a lot of screaming, both on the stage when Axl Rose sings and in the stands as fans cheer the band on.
With all the drama behind the scenes over the years involving this lead singer and his bandmates, no one thought they’d never see a Guns N’ Roses reunion tour in their lifetime,which is why the tour is titled, “Not In This Lifetime.”
A total of 36 semi-trucks brought in the stage and production equipment from Washington D.C., which is where the band performed Sunday night before busing it to Kansas City.
“Our first show was indoors, so we had a roof over the head of us so we couldn’t do the fireworks display that we do for this show, which will look fantastic in this building,” production manager Dale Skjerscth. “It always does. Everything evolves in the show, it just gets better and better, even the band playing. Everybody tightens up.”
Over the past three days, more than 300 workers have put the stage together on the infield. They’ve added big screens and fireworks to the production, making it a different experience from when they last toured in the early 90’s.
Earlier this year, lead singer Axl Rose broke his foot and performed in a pre-tour concert in a wheelchair contraption. But his foot has since healed, and he’s bouncing around on stage as usual.
The early reviews have been positive. Axl, Slash and Duff, while older, can still rock it on stage, and they say Axl’s voice sounds stronger than ever.
The band broke up back in 1993 so fans who haven’t seen them play since will soon find out if the wait was worth it.
