Highway Patrol and Krispy Kreme Toy Drive for Kids in the Hospital

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hundreds of hospitalized Kansas City-area children will receive special toy deliveries this holiday season, thanks to the Tenth Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Memorial Toy Fund. Metro-area Krispy Kreme Doughnut stores will collect new toys for the drive, which runs Nov. 20th through Dec. 9th, 2012

This annual toy drive is a metro-wide campaign to benefit children spending the holiday season in the hospital. It honors the memory of Missouri State Trooper Michael L. Newton, who was tragically killed in May 2003 while on duty.

During the drive, Krispy Kreme will give away a free dozen doughnuts to anyone who donates a new toy with a value of $10 or more. In late December, Kansas and Missouri troopers will personally deliver the toys to children hospitalized at KU Medical Center
and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House over the holidays.

Last year’s toy drive generated approximately $5,000 worth of toys. The Fund is a cooperative effort between the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and citizens. Monetary donations can be made to the Missouri State Trooper’s Association at 504 SE Blue Parkway, Lee’s Summit, Mo., 64063 or the Kansas State Trooper’s Association at 1200 SW 10th Avenue,Topeka,KS 66604-1204.
