KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Prosecutors have charged a Kansas City, Missouri, man in connection to the February, 2011, murder of his wife.
Gary K. Grandberry, 37, faces second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges for the February 17, 2011 murder of Nia Grandberry at an Independence apartment complex.
According to court documents, Nia Grandberry’s body was found in the breezeway of the apartment building on East 35th Terrace. Witnesses told police that she had called that night and said that her husband had shot her. A few days later, a police K-9 unit found a .25 caliber handgun near some rocks by a nearby restaurant.
Forensic investigators were able to link the shell casings from the victim’s apartment to the gun. Prosecutors say that other evidence placed Gary Grandberry in the area of the crime scene the night of Nia Grandberry’s murder.
Gary Grandberry is in custody in the Jackson County Jail. Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 cash-only bond.
